Podcast Analysis

Name of the Podcast : C.R.T Podcast Episode 37:Doom (2016 PS4) and Pokemon Go Review

This podcast was loud and dramatic. The podcast started with an edited voice before breaking into a theme song that was electro based and funky. The music decreased in volume with a voice over, before spiking in volume again and slowly fading into silence. The first review was introduced with another edited voice which made it sound robotic and relevant to the game based reviews which were aimed at young adults (based on the amount of swearing and lack of censoring). The two reviews where started with a brief summary of the history of the game and then a brief introduction into the game. the presenter gave the product criticism in needed areas, but also praised the game, giving the audience an unbiased review. The host also gave refinements, which leaves the impression that the man knows what would need improving (his behaviour may have been infantile but he is talking some sense) . The review of the Pokemon Go was rounded off with a number rating out of five, which gave listeners the overall opinion of the product. The presenter was on his own and maintained the lively and colourful commentary throughout the long broadcast.
The whole podcast was informal and relaxed, being aimed at the young adult target market, which may mean the audience are more likely to listen.
The podcast was brought to a close with outro music (deceasing in volume) that was similar to the intro music, giving the podcast continuity throughout.
Overall, the podcast was certainly informal, with aspect which could have been classed as formal, such as individual introductions for the different segments. this review was filled with music which meant there wasn't any silent moments, leaving the tone ruined. There was a joyful and energetic approach throughout, which wouldn't have been aimed at very young audiences due to the volume of swearing and bad language.

Podcast Checklist:

  • Chilled music in the background e.g. Jazz, quiet melody, upbeat
  • Inviting introduction - chilled, similar to a You Tuber introduction, energetic, brief
  • Short length of podcast - no one wants to sit through a long podcast which drawls on for over an hour, no longer than 30 - 60 minutes
  • Guests - bring in good chemistry and would make the podcast more inviting and relaxed, brings in different opinions and new voices - more interesting to listen to
  • Outro - brings the podcast to a definite close and music can be used for continuity
  • Brief summary of the subject - lets the audience know what will be said and allows them to decide whether they want to continue listening
  • No monotone voices - no matter if the podcast is formal or informal, no one would want to listen to a robotic voice for 50 minutes, make sure the presenter and guests maintain an upbeat mood through out the podcast, otherwise people will be bored.
